A member of the prestigious Directors Guild of America (DGA), Shuaib Mitchell is the President and founder of Nubia Filmworks, LLC. He is a graduate of Howard University (Washington, DC) where he studied film and television production under an esteemed faculty that included internationally acclaimed filmmaker Haile Gerima. He began his professional career at C-SPAN, where he later directed the live nationally televised viewer call-in shows. His independent filmmaking career was launched in 1992 with the one-hour documentary film, Straight Up Go Go, which he produced and directed. Mr. Mitchell has produced and directed several award winning films and television shows throughout his career including the critically acclaimed Too Saved (2007), winner of the DOVE "Family Approved" Seal (4-Star Rating) and Nocturnal Agony (2012). Nocturnal Agony is a "faith-based" thriller that has won numerous awards and stars an all-star cast that includes Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs, Vernee' Watson, Rae'Ven Larrymore Kelly and Grammy award winning gospel recording artist Hezekiah Walker. Mr. Mitchell is a recent recipient of the Howard University Alumni Association (HUAA) Golden Bison Award as an Outstanding Howard University Alumnus in the field of entertainment. The award was presented as part of the HUAA 50th Anniversary Celebration’s Blue Carpet Reception. Mr. Mitchell was honored among 32 other distinguished Howard University Alumni from various fields including Aviation, Medicine, Public Service, Religion, Business and Entertainment.
Vice President of Operations
A native of Washington, DC, Mary Colbert is a graduate of Towson University (Towson, Maryland) where she majored in Business Administration & Finance. She joined the Nubia Filmworks staff in 2006 and promptly began working on several Nubia Filmworks productions, serving as Assistant Producer on The "faith-based" romantic comedy TOO SAVED and Co-Producer on the critically acclaimed dramatic thriller NOCTURNAL AGONY. In addition to her production duties, Mary manages Nubia Filmworks’ day-to-day operations, assists in the development of original programming, and handles all catering and craft services on Nubia Filmworks productions. Mary is a proud member of Delta-Sigma-Theta Sorority Inc.
Vice President of Development & Production
Tara Hayman creates and implements social media campaigns for the company, and utilizes her marketing knowledge to enhance Nubia Filmworks' online presence. Tara also leads the film production efforts and works closely to develop the right mix of products to satisfy the company’s production needs. She also collaborates with other department members and company executives to ensure continued growth for Nubia FIlmworks. To date, Tara has worked on the following production(s) with Nubia: Nocturnal Agony (2012) as Assistant Production Coordinator and Transportation Coordinator. Prior to joining Nubia Filmworks, Tara had the pleasure of directing and producing several plays for community organizations in Washington, DC. Tara graduated from TESST College of Technology of Beltsville, Maryland with a Computer Support Technician Certificate. In her spare time, she loves to travel, spending time with family, and pursues cosmetology.
