Nubia Filmworks, LLC. is a motion picture and television production company founded in 2000 by Washington D.C based award winning independent filmmaker Shuaib Mitchell. We are a producer of major motion picture and television programming and we provide professional film and video production services to a wide range of government agencies and businesses throughout the country, through our subsidiary Progressive Productions, LLC. The wide range of projects that we produce for clients include, commercials, music videos, corporate training videos, concerts, public service announcements and promotional videos. Over the years our list of distinguished clientele have included such well known organizations and agencies as The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), The U.S. State Department, Lustine Nissan, The Smithsonian Institute, The Anacostia Museum, BET Movies, CAPCOM, Inc., and The Washington Baptist Seminary.
In addition to our services for clients, Nubia Filmworks has produced a variety of award winning motion picture and television programming including the critically acclaimed feature length motion picture "Too Saved" (2007). Released on DVD by Maverick Entertainment Group, Inc. in February 2009, Too Saved is the winner of the prestigious "Dove" Family Approved Seal (4-star rating), "Best Narrative Film" at the 1st Annual North Carolina Family Film Festival (2011), "Best Film" (2nd Place) at the 1st Annual KingdomWood Christian Film Festival (2008), and "Best Religious Film" (nomination) at the 5th Annual San Diego Black Film Festival. Our list of credits also includes the recently completed "Nocturnal Agony" (2012) which stars veteran Hollywood film and television actors Lawrence-Hilton Jacobs (A Preacher’s Kid, The Jacksons, Cooley High, Welcome Back Kotter), Vernee Watson (The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, The Guiding Light, Welcome Back Kotter), Rae’Ven Larrymore Kelly (A Preacher’s Kid, What’s Love Got to Do With It, A Time to Kill, Ghosts of Mississippi, Hannah Montana), and renowned gospel recording artist Hezekiah Walker in his feature film debut (The "faith-based" drama is scheduled for release in 2012), "Straight Up Go-Go" (1993), a one-hour PBS documentary on the history and sociology of Washington D.C’s “Go-Go” music, and "A Giant Among Men: The life & Times of Andrew Fowler" (coming soon) a feature length documentary that explores the fascinating life and career of the legendary human rights activists, Baptist Minister, and President of The Washington Baptist Seminary, Dr. Andrew Fowler.
In addition, Nubia Filmworks has several feature length screenplays that are scheduled for production including the award winning "A Rose By Any Other Name", a coming of age love story that has two legendary "Hollywood" actors attached to star in the film and is targeted for production in 2013.
